Frequently Asked Questions
Our Mission Statement
The Hardwood Store is Coeur d' Alene's only place to buy quality hardwood lumber and plywood. Located off US 95 and Miles Avenue, The Hardwood Store opened in October 2008 with the goal of supplying the Lake City with the best quality of hardwood lumber, plywood, turning/carving stock, flooring and mouldings available.
What are you prices based on?
Our lumber is priced by the board foot. Our moldings are sold by the lineal foot.
How do I calculate board footage?
[thickness(in inches) x width (in inches) x length (in feet)] / 12
For example, if a board measures 4/4 x 6" wide x 5' long then the following calculation applies:
(1" thick x 6" wide x 5' long) / 12 = 2.5 board feet
What is the difference between Flat Sawn and Quartern Sawn lumber?
Flat Sawn boards are characterized by a cathedral grain that runs the length of the board. Quarter sawn boards should have mostly straight grain.
